If you don't laugh at least once per day, something's wrong with your life. Seriously. If I haven't had at least one gut wrenching, stomach twisting laugh each day, I watch a bunch of funny videos on YouTube before going to bed (but I don't read the comments, they're often quite mean). So, here's a video that I discovered while watching the news last night (out of all places). The description for this video on YouTube says... 8-month-old boy laughing hysterically while at-home daddy rips up … [Read more...]
The Trailblazer Manifesto
Shawn Driscoll wrote a manifesto called The Trailblazer Manifesto. I pulled out a couple of sentences that stood out for me: "Mastery, not mediocrity is your pursuit. You are on a big mission to promote hope, not hype." Want the entire manifesto? Click here to download it. … [Read more...]
The Dangers of Being a Negaholic
If happiness is a choice, why do so many choose to hang on to negativity for so long? I led a discussion on this topic on Saturday at church by looking at the story of Absolam, David's 4th son and 3rd in line to the throne. Because Absolam was addicted to unhappiness, he missed out on building a great dynasty. Instead, he's remembered in the Bible for all the wrong reasons. Listen to the 20-minute non-downloadable audio clip below to see if you recognize yourself in Absolam's story. … [Read more...]

The Power of Vulnerability
I have talked before about the issue of vulnerability and why it's so important for us to exhibit this in our businesses. I was happy to see that Brené Brown has done research in this area and provided a succinct talk on this in the video below. It's 20-minutes and makes for a very interesting watch. … [Read more...]
When the Hinge Breaks the Facade Will Fall
I ended 2010 with yet another thing breaking. After dissolving my corporation, breaking up with my boyfriend, resigning from a non-profit board I sat on and seeing my laptop screen fizzle, my iPod stopped working. I bought it in 2006 as a gift to myself for ending the year on such a great note. The exact date was December 29, 2006. On December 29, 2010 while looking at fabrics in Fabricland, my iPod dropped from my hand and hit the floor. When I picked it up, I heard something rattling … [Read more...]
A Modern Day Fable About the Sea Who Wanted Too Much
This fable is an adaptation of Bruce Barton's 1928 article in McCall's magazine called There Are Two Seas. Once upon a time, there were to seas. One was called the Sea of Galilee. The other was called the Sea of Mizrah. The Sea of Galilee was in the north while the Sea of Mizrah was in the south. Both seas were fed by the Jordan River which supplied them with fresh water. Fishes swam in both seas. Birds flew above. Plenty of trees lined the shores of both seas. Many humans flocked to the … [Read more...]
Why the Numbers No Longer Matter
I used to be obsessed with the numbers. I would fanatically insert Google Analytics on every one of my websites, then check the number of pages views every day. I would visit Feedburner every hour to see if there was a bump in new subscribers to my podcast feed. I would sit back with a smug on my face as I watched the number of my followers increase on Twitter by the hundreds each week. I marveled at the number of people requesting my friendship on Facebook. I still have over 700 pending … [Read more...]
How Being an Outsider Makes Me Fit In, Part 2
I was asked a rather intriguing question on Twitter by themediamaven. It was so intriguing, her question prompted my video response in Part 1 which you can view by clicking here. In Part 2, I explain how I was able to direct my message to an audience that was open to listening. Like themediamaven, I initially targeted CEOs of big companies, but I soon realized that this audience didn't want to listen to me. Then, I started networking with other "geeks" in my industry, but soon realized that … [Read more...]
