Do You Know Who’s Watching When You’re Being Dishonest or Selfish?

I was reading John C. Maxwell’s book called The 21 Indispensable Qualities of a Leader: Becoming a Person Others Will Want to Follow and in one of the chapters, Maxwell recounts the story of Michelangelo’s painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. It took him 4-years to paint the ceiling and Michelangelo’s eyesight was never the same after the project was done.

He was asked after the project was done why he painted the dark corners where no one would even see it. Michelangelo’s response? “God will see” (p 18).

Based on Michelangelo’s response, I was inspired to write the following and share with you. Because in all things, as leaders, we need to operate with integrity because even if no one is watching, God is.

“If I cut corners, God will see it.”

“If I manipulate others to do what I want, God will see it.”

“If I lie on my taxes, God will see it.”

“If I fail to deliver on what I promise, God will see it.”

“If I keep silent about a lie, God will see it.”

“If I miss a deadline and make excuses about it, God will see it.”

“If I don’t give my best, God will see it.”

“If I steal from my customers, my vendors or other leaders, God will see it.”
