Why the Numbers No Longer Matter

I used to be obsessed with the numbers. I would fanatically insert Google Analytics on every one of my websites, then check the number of pages views every day. I would visit Feedburner every hour to see if there was a bump in new subscribers to my podcast feed. I would sit back with a smug on my face as I watched the number of my followers increase on Twitter by the hundreds each week. I marveled at the number of people requesting my friendship on Facebook. I still have over 700 pending … [Read more...]

How Being an Outsider Makes Me Fit In, Part 2

I was asked a rather intriguing question on Twitter by themediamaven. It was so intriguing, her question prompted my video response in Part 1 which you can view by clicking here. In Part 2, I explain how I was able to direct my message to an audience that was open to listening. Like themediamaven, I initially targeted CEOs of big companies, but I soon realized that this audience didn't want to listen to me. Then, I started networking with other "geeks" in my industry, but soon realized that … [Read more...]

Failure is One Thing; Regret is Worst

There are 7 words that I'm getting really tired of hearing, which is: "Why are you doing Telesummit Refresh live?" In other words, why am I crazy/stupid/dumb enough to plan an in person event in a hotel conference room when so many are having a hard time filling their events due to the economy/terrorism/elections/other-events/blah/bleh/you-name-it. I heard this from my dear ol' mom (God bless her), one of my Virtual Event Managers, one of my power affiliates, even from one of my mentors. I know … [Read more...]

The Four Things Singing Taught Me About Being a Purple Cow

A couple weeks ago, I did the one of riskiest thing I have ever done for my business in the past year. What was it? I sang my heart out to win one of 5 seats to an event I really, really, really wanted to attend. The name of the event is called Shine and it's hosted by self-made multi-millionaire Ali Brown. You can watch my entry below. I actually composed the song for another event, but as soon as I saw the announcement by Ali looking for video entries for scholarships to her amazing event, … [Read more...]

Respecting Your Own Boundaries

I just returned from attending a Wealth Builders information session. I sat down and got up in record, not because of the content (I only heard about 3-minutes), but because of the attitude of one of staff members. I didn't plan to attend, but my mother insisted that I go on her behalf. After finishing up a call with one of my colleagues, I noticed that I had just 15-minutes to get to the event. Hunger dictated my next move, so I stopped off at a restaurant to pick up an order of poutine. I … [Read more...]

Be Bitter or Be Better

I was decluttering the basement where years and years of junk had piled up. As I was purging, I stumbled upon a bunch of papers and notebooks that contained quite a number of high school love letters (addressed TO me), receipts from now defunct stores (remember Consumers Distributing?) and photos. I found a picture of me when I was in my late 20s and wow, I could see the anger piercing from my eyes even though I was smiling. That period was my angry period and I remember why. I was … [Read more...]

Stop Being Paralyzed By What Others Think

I've come to understand that as I increase in abundance and become more visible in this market place, I will encounter people who won't be happy with my success. The reasons why are many - jealousy, envy, the way I talk, my height - who knows (and frankly, who cares). You see, those who have lots of fans and critics do so because they have chosen not to play it safe. Think of any guru out there and I can bet that they are successful because they took a position on a topic, defended it well and … [Read more...]

Create an Experience for Your Customers

My sister and brother-in-law got married on one of the most gorgeous days in Toronto back in June 2009. It was sunny and pleasant for most of the day. It did rain just after the reception, but it was followed by a wonderful rainbow. What a great sign for the most perfect couple. That's the 2 of them pictured on the right. Aren't they so adorable? Talk about adorable, I just had to include a picture of the flower girl (pictured left). Her name is Hannah and she's the youngest daughter of one … [Read more...]

Michael Port’s Advice on How Small Companies Can Think & Act Big

A Friday morning coffee with my friend, Michael Port, turned into a quick commute to Toronto Pearson International airport so he could re-book a missed flight. While he drove me in my car to the airport, I pulled out my video camera so I could capture Michael's thoughts on his newest book, The Think Big Manifesto. It's a fun interview and when you read the show notes below, you'll see why it's well worth the 8-minute watch. Show Notes 00:00:00 - Leesa sings a popular song to set the … [Read more...]
