It was so intriguing, her question prompted my video response below.

First, here are her questions:

And:

Hmmm….how do I answer themediamaven?

I was going to write a tweet to respond to her, but my answer would need some explaining. You see, I don’t believe it’s as simple as “go where the CEOs are, read what the CEOs are reading.” That’s too simplistic.

In fact, there’s something unique about me and my experiences that I have to share first before I give themediamaven the answer to her rather thought provoking question.

So, I had to take a step back and ask myself:

“Why do people listen to me?”

Is it because I have a loud voice? Is it because I can afford the tools that give me a voice? Is it because I made a conscious decision to stand out? Or, is it because of something in my background that influences my willingness to be heard?

I share my theory in the video below.

Here are some of the thoughts I explored in this 9-minute video clip:

What a Canadian politician taught me about ignoring racism

How history, going to university, learning French, playing for the underdog basketball and being an early adopter have helped me in my business today

How my being adaptable helps me to meet my target market’s learning style – and why this is a key trait when deciding who your target market is

Let me know what you think in the comments below.
